Mathematical Dictionary

Hi
I have attached a mathematical dictionary for your use and reference.
Quiz time:
Find the definitions of the following terms with examples (first one to post and got them correct stand to win a mathematical prize)
  1. Prime number
  2. Natural number
  3. Rational Number
  4. Vulgar Fraction
  5. Indices

15 comments:

  1. Prime number has only 1 and the number itself as factors.
Natural number is the number used for counting.example:1,2,3,4etc.
Rational numbers are the set of all real numbers that can be written as a ratio of integers with non-zero dominator.
A vulgar fraction is one where the numerator (the number on the top) is bigger than the denominator (the number on the bottom). More pedantically, the absolute value of the numerator is bigger than the absolute value of the denominator.
The ² and ³ are known as indices. Indices are useful (for example they allow us to represent numbers in standard form) and have a number of properties.

  2. 1. Prime number
A prime number is a number that can only be divided by one and itself.
    2. Natural number
    Natural numbers are all numbers.
    3. Rational Number
A rational number is any number that can be expressed as the quotient a/b of two integers, with the denominator b not equal to zero
    4. Vulgar Fraction
A vulgar fraction is like a common fraction when the numerator is bigger than the denominator.
    5. Indices
    ¹ and ³ are examples of indices. Example 5³ = 5×5×5

  3. A prime number is a number that can only be divided by 1 and itself. Natural numbers are positive integers used for counting. Rational numbers are numbers that can be expressed a quotient of a/b, as long as b does not equal 0. A vulgar fraction is one in which the numerator is greater then the denominator. Indices are symbols used to indicate mathematical properties.

  4. Prime number- A positive integer which has only 1 and the number itself as factors.
Natural number- The numbers used for counting. E.g. the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
Rational Number- All positive and negative fractions, including integers and so-called improper fractions. Formally, rational numbers are the set of all real numbers that can be written as a ratio of integers with nonzero denominator. Rational numbers are indicated by the symbol .
Vulgar Fraction- A vulgar fraction is a rational number written as one integer (the numerator) divided by a non-zero integer (the denominator).
Indices- The ² and ³ are known as indices. Indices are useful (for example they allow us to represent numbers in standard form) and have a number of properties.

  5. 1. A prime number is a number that can only be divided by 1 and by itself. Eg. 3, 13, 19
    2. Natural numbers are numbers that are used for counting.
    3. Rational numbers are any ordinary number of arithmetic.
    4. A vulgar fraction is a rational number written as one integer divided by a non-zero integer.
    5. Indices are numbers or formulas expressing some ratios and properties etc., of something indicated.

  6. 1. Prime number
Prime number is an integer that has no integral factors but itself and 1.
    2. Natural number
    Natural numbers are regular numbers.
    3. Rational Number
A rational number is an integer or a fraction
    4. Vulgar Fraction
A vulgar fraction is a number expressed with numerator and denominator.
    5. Indices
The ² and ³ are known as indices. Indices are useful (for example they allow us to represent numbers in standard form) and have a number of properties.

  7. 1.Prime number
It is a positive integer which can only be divided by the number 1 and itself. The number 1 is not a prime number.
    2.Natural number
It is the number used for counting.
    3.Rational number
Those are all positive and negative, including integers and so-called improper fractions. Formally, rational numbers are the set of all real numbers that can be written as a ratio of integers with nonzero denominator. Rational numbers are indicated by the symbol Q.
    4.Vulgar Fraction
A Vulgar fraction (or common fraction) is a rational number written as one integer (the numerator) divided by a nonzero integer (the denominator)
    5.Indices
Indices are for example 3 to the power of 4, it is the tiny number at the top of another number.

  8. 1. Prime numbers are numbers that can be only divided by 1 and itself and is larger than 1.

    2. Natural numbers are the numbers that are used for counting.

    3. Rational numbers are nameable numbers,(and we can name it according to the standard way of naming whole numbers, fractions, and mixed numbers)

4.A fraction where both top and bottom are integers (whole numbers).

5.Indices are the small numbers above another number and show that number is to the power of the number above.

E.g.: 7 ² is 7 to the power of 2 or better said as 7x2

  9. 1.)Prime number
A prime number is a number that can only be divided by 1 and itself.
    Eg.2,3,13 (1 is not a Prime number)
    2.)Natural number
It is the number used for counting. It also can be called a counting number.
    3.)Rational Number
It is a ordinary number of arithmetic: Any whole number, fraction, mixed number or decimal, together with its negative image
    4.)Vulgar Fraction
A vulgar fraction is one where the numerator is bigger than the denominator.
    5.)Indices
    The ² and ³ are known as indices.E.g 3³ = 3×3×3
