Erastothenes was a Greek mathematician,elegiac poet, athlete, geographer, and astronomer who made discoveries and inventions including a system of latitude and longitude. He was the first Greek to calculate the circumference of the earth, and the tilt of the earth's axis.

ReplyDeleteThe sieve of Erastothenesis a simple, ancient algorithm for finding all prime numbers up to a specified integer. It works efficiently for the smaller primes (below 10 million).

A Mersenne prime is a positive integer that is 1 less then a power of 2. eg: Mp= 2to the power of a prime number - 1.
